Discover Art, Science, History and Theater at the Morris Museum in NJ

If you love touring museum exhibits related to a variety of disciplines, you will find the Morris Museum in Morristown, NJ fascinating. There are first-rate exhibits focused on art, science, theater and history all under one roof at the Morris Museum.

The Morris Museum features both permanent and changing exhibits, but at the heart of it all is their distinguished collection of 48,700 objects.  

The Museum's art collection contains a wide variety costumes and textiles as well as fine art and decorative art items.  The natural sciences collection held by Morris Museum contains vertebrates, invertebrates, and a large and impressive geology and paleontology collection.

Morris Museum holds a large number of significant ethnographic collections and archaeology artifacts from North America as well as diverse locations around the world. A unique collection of children's items from the 19th and 20th centuries is also held by the Museum.

One fascinating new permanent exhibit at Morris Museum features items from the Murtogh D. Guinness collection acquired in 2003. The exhibit is called Musical Machines and Living Dolls, and both children and adults will enjoy touring this incredible display of mechanical figures and musical instruments.

Most of the items featured in the Musical Machines and Living Dolls exhibit date from the 19th century. Visitors can watch live demonstrations and see and hear these incredible objects in action through video and audio displays. There is also a fun hands-on area in the exhibit to explore.

When you're ready to tour one of Morris Museum's excellent natural science exhibits, visit the Mammal Gallery. Here you will see a huge variety of mammals, including the towering Grizzly Bear and several endangered species. Birds of prey and animals local to the Morristown area are also featured in this permanent exhibit.

At Morris Museum's Rock and Mineral Gallery, visitors learn about geology through interactive exhibits. You'll see a variety of rocks and minerals and learn a great deal about both as you view them up close. Hands-on activities are also featured at the Rock and Mineral Gallery.

Visitors learn about what life was like in New Jersey millions of years ago at Morris Museum's Dinosaur Den. This very popular exhibit features authentic fossils and casts as well as reconstructed dinosaur skeletons, life-sized dinosaur models and real dinosaur tracks.

There are many other fascinating exhibits to tour at the Morris Museum, including an entire gallery devoted to the American Indian. Another highlight of the Morris Museum is their elaborate model railroad display.
