Located in Liberty State Park, the Liberty Science Center features a variety of fascinating, hands-on exhibits, films and programs aimed at science education.

The Liberty Science Center first opened in 1993, the result of an impressive public and private partnership that began in the 1980s. More than 9 million people visited the Liberty Science Center between 1993 and 2005 when it closed for a major, $109 million renovation and expansion project.

The Liberty Science Center reopened in 2007, and today it features a variety of new and exciting exhibition areas and facilities. There are four floors, two major exhibition areas, a spacious new retail store and beautiful cafe, plus much more for visitors’ convenience and enjoyment. Two new theaters, live science demonstrations and a variety of special events and programs are all featured at the Liberty Science Center.

The nation’s largest IMAX Dome Theater at Liberty Science Center shows films relating to a variety of science-based topics. Three different films currently being shown at the IMAX Dome Theater focus on sky-diving, sea creatures of the ancient world, and exploration of the royal tombs of Egypt. The Digital 3D Theater at Liberty Science Center is currently showing a fascinating film entitled “Bugs! 3D,” featuring incredible 3D technology.

A variety of live science demonstrations are available throughout the exhibition galleries at Liberty Science Center. Topics as diverse as surveying, invertebrates, fish feeding and lasers are explored and explained in these interactive programs. You can ask questions and participate in these and many other special live demonstrations that are regularly scheduled at Liberty Science Center.

Ten permanent exhibitions and two special feature exhibits are available for tours and exploration at Liberty Science Center. Communication, wildlife, the Hudson River and infectious germs are some of the topics you can learn about in intriguing, hands-on exhibits at Liberty Science Center. A special outdoor exhibition that explores what it’s like to be a wild animal is presently being featured. The Science of Fear is the second special feature exhibit on at the Liberty Science Center.

Special programs and events are held at the Liberty Science Center throughout the year including workshops and film festivals.
