Natural Science Collection and Exhibits
Newark Museum holds an impressive 83,000 specimen Natural Science Collection. Items from this collection are showcased in the museum’s “Dynamic Earth” Revealing Nature’s Secrets Gallery.” This exhibit includes interactive and multimedia displays that invite participation as they engage audiences. On your tour of this exciting permanent exhibition, you’ll view the core of the Earth, watch a volcano explode, see lions and polar bears hunt for prey and explore a bat cave. These are just a few of the interrelated topics featured in this exciting exhibition.
The Mini Zoo at Newark Museum allows visitors to view over 100 live animals up close. Exotic as well as domestic animal species are exhibited in their natural habitats. Live demonstrations involving the animals at Newark Museum are scheduled regularly, or you can take an interactive, self-guided tour of the Mini Zoo.
If you enjoy learning about astronomy and space travel, you’ll want to visit the Alice and Leonard Dreyfuss Planetarium at Newark Museum. A variety of shows and special programs are held at the planetarium throughout the year.
